A global investment advisory and asset management firm with a strong focus on alternative investments.

Your tasks:

In this role, you will lead and implement the vision for Valuation Services within the AIFM, positioning the function as the trusted expert team for all ongoing valuation-related activities. You will ensure that valuations are delivered accurately, consistently, and on time, while continuously improving processes, controls, and risk management across the valuation and accounting interface.

Core Duties

  • Lead and implement the vision for Valuation Services, establishing the team as the central resource for all valuation-related work across the AIFM, delivered to the highest standards of accuracy, quality, and timeliness.
  • Fully manage and supervise valuation activities for financial instruments, assets, and liabilities, ensuring full compliance with applicable accounting standards and regulatory requirements. Act as a change agent by enhancing efficiency and reducing operational and valuation risk across valuation production, oversight, investor reporting, and audit processes.
  • Provide oversight of accounting activities in close collaboration with the Fund Operations team, which retains responsibility for day-to-day accounting execution and procedures.
  • Oversee liquidity management from a governance and approval perspective, providing guidance and validation, while Fund Operations and Portfolio Management teams conduct daily liquidity management activities.
  • Work closely with internal stakeholders — including Fund Operations, Reporting, Risk Management, Investment Teams, and Portfolio Management — to ensure consistency, integrity, and accuracy of financial and valuation data.
  • Conduct regular reviews and internal audits of valuation models, methodologies, and accounting processes to identify weaknesses, mitigate risks, and strengthen controls.
  • Remain up to date on industry developments, regulatory changes, and best practices in valuation and accounting oversight, ensuring full compliance with relevant regulatory frameworks, including IFRS, GAAP, and local regulations.
  • Manage resources and workflows within Valuation Services by ensuring effective planning, coordination, and control of workloads so that all deliverables meet Mercer’s expectations regarding quality, standards, and timeliness.
  • Develop the Valuation Services team through involvement in recruitment, talent management, performance appraisals, and by providing ongoing training and guidance on valuation methodologies and accounting standards.
  • Coordinate with the Investment Manager and Lead Manager on reporting requirements for model-based valuation approaches related to co-investments and direct investments.
Additional Responsibilities
  • Perform ex-ante valuation assessments for new investments, including price verification and review of ongoing reporting and valuation requirements.
  • Lead and oversee ongoing, IPEV-compliant valuation preparation and valuation oversight for investments.
  • Supervise the preparation, review, and validation of valuation- and accounting-related financial statements and reporting packages.
  • Prepare investment and valuation memoranda and provide reporting to executive management, the valuation committee, and other governance bodies, in line with NAV reporting cycles (primarily quarterly).
  • Act as a voting member of the valuation committee.
  • Coordinate audits and actively contribute to the evolution and enhancement of audit procedures relating to valuation matters.

Your profile:

  • 10+ years of experience in valuing Private Equity, Private Debt, Infrastructure, Real Estate or similar Private Markets assets.
  • Strong understanding of valuation techniques, financial modelling, and accounting standards.
  • Highly detail-oriented with a strong sense of ownership and commitment to high-quality deliverables.
  • Analytical problem-solver with the ability to investigate issues thoroughly and propose effective solutions.
  • Proactive and collaborative team player able to work effectively with colleagues at all seniority levels.
  • Excellent communication skills in English; German is an advantage.
